Charles has a lifetime of experience as a musician. He began singing in church choirs at the age of seven, conducting choirs and theatre productions at the age of sixteen and continues to work with singers in his sixth decade. He began taking piano lessons at the age of six as a pupil at the Blackheath Conservatoire and went on to study music at Dartington College of Arts in Devon. Charles gained his Diploma of Music in Education with distinction before going on to complete his teaching certificate. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities, Music and Education. He is a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and of the Association of British Choral Directors and in April 2008 re-located to Taunton in Somerset from the East Midlands (UK).

In addition to working as a choral conductor, Charles offers individual music tuition to students of all ages who would like to develop their musical skills, knowledge and understanding by taking piano, flute, recorder or voice lessons.
